What could have happened to this Golden Retriever? It wasn't bees or wasps!

Hondo (Texas) - That's what you get for being a gullible golden retriever who wants to be friends with everyone and everything. Charlie, nicknamed "Chuck", recently had to learn the hard way that he shouldn 't ask all animals to be his friend. So the four-month-old dog from Hondo, Texas, tried an address that (almost) everyone else would deliberately avoid.

His very swollen snout suggests the usual: Chuck wanted to steal honey from the bees or had stung a wasp's nest. But no! The golden retriever had gone one step further: He had asked a rattlesnake for her friendship. Spoiler: she refused.

Chuck's owner, Saylor Bendele, recently told Newsweek that she lives with the young male on a 200-acre ranch. There are certainly the odd rattlesnake there.

However, the four-legged friend bravely endured the reptile's bite. "He behaved normally the whole time and breathed well, only his face got a little thicker. Even when he was bitten, he behaved normally. We slowed him down considerably and gave him rest while the venom was circulating," said the Texan.

Anyone bitten by a rattlesnake can have an antivenom injected by a doctor. But Chuck's owner decided against it for good reason.

As luck would have it, the golden retriever had been given a prophylactic antivenin just two days earlier - so it was sufficiently protected.

But why had Bendele had her golden retriever protected before the bite? Because her other dog had already been bitten by a rattlesnake last year.

So the US-American already had experience and knew what to do and what not to do. Bendele probably also suspected that it couldn't hurt to post a short video with the poor furry friend on TikTok .

The video has already achieved 7.8 million clicks and 1.3 million likes since last week. "It's funny to know that millions of people have seen my dog, but it was fun," says the young woman afterwards.

Meanwhile, Chuck is doing well again. After three days, the swelling had subsided.
