Golden retriever and humpback whale meet in heartwarming moment
Hawaii - On a boat trip, golden retriever Macy discovers a humpback whale in the water. When the whale becomes aware of the four-legged friend, it seems as if a very special bond is forming between the animals.
Chrissy Lovitt is a captain on board a whale exploration ship. Always with her: her golden retriever Macy.
The dog and her owner seem to share a passion, because as soon as they are on board the ship, they keep an eye out for whales in the depths of the ocean.
When Macy's attention is drawn to one of the sea creatures, she starts barking incessantly. The four-legged friend has never received a response from the marine giants - until now.
In a video that Chrissy Lovitt posted on Facebook, she captured how her furry friend finally received the long-awaited attention from a whale. As usual, Macy starts barking wildly, but instead of swimming away, the humpback whale comes closer and closer to the pair.
"He heard her barking and swam towards her," Lovitt enthuses to the Associated Press. In the clip, it is clear that Macy's excitement increased as the whale approached.
This encounter is a dream come true for the dog
Just a few meters away from the dog, the humpback whale finally breaks through the surface of the water, while Macy happily stretches out towards it.
For a brief moment, it seems as if the two animals form a special bond, but shortly afterwards the whale dives back down into the water.
After the encounter, Chrissy Lovitt seems to be even more excited than the dog herself. She told the Associated Press: "She's 11 and I know we won't be with her forever. But it's always been on her wish list, so I'm really happy for her."
