Tragic death before Europa League clash! Visiting fan hit by car

Istanbul (Turkey) -Glasgow Rangers visit Fenerbahce Istanbul onThursday evening for the first leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 16. However, the upcoming clash in the Turkish capital has been overshadowed by a tragic death.

The Scottish record champions announced just hours before kick-off of tonight's match (6.45pm) that one of their own fans had been killed in a road accident .

"At this incredibly difficult time, the thoughts of everyone at the club are with her family and friends," the club announced in an official statement - and also explained that they were in "constant contact with the Turkish and British authorities" regarding the incident.

The hosts also expressed their shock and sympathy in an emotional statement on the social media platform X, expressing their condolences to both the bereaved of the deceased accident victim and the guest in "deep sorrow".

Rangers fan hit by car and fatally injured

The supporter had traveled to Turkey for his team's away match, where he suffered fatal injuries in the traffic accident.

On Thursday night, he was hit by a car at a crosswalk in the Besiktas district. This was reported by several English media outlets, including"The Sun".

According to these reports, the emergency services rushed to his aid were able to take him to hospital, but were unable to save his life. However, no further details about the deceased are known.
