60 victims? Olympic star allegedly abused or raped minors

Pool (England) - The allegations are shocking and more and more victims are coming forward. Brian Phelps, who is already 80 years old, is alleged to have sexually abused or raped girls over a long period of time.

In 2008, the former diver and his brother John, a former canoeist, were sentenced to six years in prison. They were convicted of sexually assaulting three children aged between six and 15.

He served the entire sentence and now lives in France. But now he could face prison again.

In 2023, a girl named Emma came forward and, according to the police, reported disturbing acts, as the Daily Mail writes.

After his active career, Brian Phelps opened a trampolining studio with his wife Marilyn. There, the bronze medal winner of the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome is said to have set up a place called "Happyland" in the basement, decorated with pictures of Disney characters.

He is said to have molested or raped his victims in these rooms. Since the girl revealed herself in 2023, up to 60 victims are said to have contacted the police and also reported their ordeal.

Lawyer still wants justice for the victims years later

Lawyer Bruce Drummond, who is representing the victims, told Daily Mail: "My clients' statements are deeply disturbing. This is a major and serious breach of trust."

He not only wants to take further action against the perpetrator, but also against the British Athletic Association for Amateur Gymnastics and Trampolining. Phelps worked there as a water jumping and gymnastics coach.

Emma had made allegations against the association for "catastrophic failings". She is demanding compensation for the years of therapy she had to undergo following the traumatic experiences in her childhood.

Her lawyer is also demanding the establishment and funding of a center for survivors of abuse. Emma is said to have gone through hell at the age of just eight in the mid-1970s.

As there is no statute of limitations for the crimes, Phelps is still expected to pay for them in old age.
