Woman wants to cancel Spotify account of dead mother: The app's response leaves you stunned

Reddit - After the death of a person, the bereaved are not only faced with a lot of grief, but also a lot of work. In addition to the costly funeral, the family of the deceased also has to take care of their estate and sort out various little things that you wouldn't immediately think of - such as canceling a streaming service. The daughter of a deceased woman shared her - rather unpleasant - experience of this on Reddit.

User "tammytrex" recently lost her mother and was in the middle of the arduous process of following up on the death of her loved one.

For her, this also included taking care of the various subscriptions of the deceased so that they would not continue to run unused and cause pointless costs.

As her deceased mother had also used Spotify on her cell phone during her lifetime, it was clear that this streaming service would also have to be canceled. This turned out to be not so easy.

The Reddit user posted two screenshots of her efforts to delete her mother's Spotify account in the "mildlyinfuriating" group.

First, "tammytrex" had to specify why she wanted to cancel the Spotify Premium account. The app gave her the choice between various reasons, such as not using the service enough or technical problems. Instead, the woman selected "Other" and described her decision in three words: "I'm dead."

The termination was then accepted, but Spotify would not rest.

Spotify termination backfires!

"It's hard to say goodbye," reads a message displayed to the grieving daughter. "But you can easily rejoin Premium at any time," the Swedish company added.

But it got even more unpleasant!

Instead of leaving it at the slogan, "tammytrex" was then provided with a playlist whose songs, read one after the other, resulted in the slogan "If you leave us now, you'll take something from us". The name of the playlist - namely "Goodbye" - is also anything but fitting for the Reddit user in light of her mother's death.

"I canceled my late mother's Spotify and it didn't go as expected," "tammytrex" summarized her experience on Reddit.

Other users didn't know whether to laugh or cry at this post. After all, there was certainly no malicious intent behind Spotify's cancellation service, but simply software that was technically unable to respond appropriately to the daughter's bereavement. Nevertheless, this procedure was certainly not easy for "tammytrex".

In the comments, however, the user explained that her deceased mother would certainly have taken the whole thing with humor. "Oh, she would laugh so hard! When my dad died, she liked to tell telemarketers that he had died when they called the landline and asked for him."
