Brussels - Asian online stores are attracting numerous customers with their bargains. But what is behind the tempting prices raises questions - now one of these platforms is coming under the spotlight.

The EU Commission is scrutinizing the Chinese online marketplace Shein for possible breaches of European consumer protection law.
The Brussels authority has launched an investigation to examine whether the platform is taking sufficient action against abusive contract terms and unfair business practices.
The investigation is being carried out by the national consumer protection authorities under the supervision of the Commission. Shein has been informed of the investigation, the Brussels authority said.
A spokeswoman for Shein emphasized that the company wants to work together with its partners at EU and national government level on regulatory issues. "We welcome all efforts to strengthen the trust and security of European consumers when shopping online."
Brussels has also taken action against other platforms

The Commission had already conducted a similar investigation into Temu .
At that time, problematic practices such as false discount campaigns, fake reviews and missing and misleading information on consumers' legal rights were identified.
