Adam Sandler causes laughter at the Oscars: sportswear instead of a tuxedo

Los Angeles (USA) - Many people were looking forward to seeing him that evening: Oscar host Conan O'Brien (61)! The comedian and late-night show star had just started the award show when he suddenly spotted Adam Sandler (58) in the audience. But unlike his colleagues, the Hollywood star was not dressed for the occasion - on the contrary ...

"Adam, what are you wearing," O'Brien, who played the surprised man, asked Sandler from the stage. "You're dressed like a guy playing online poker at 2am."

Indeed, the "Child's Head" actor stood out extremely from the tuxedo and evening gown crowd with his decidedly non-fancy outfit. Sandler sat in the audience in a light blue hoodie and sporty shorts.

He was dressed less for the most important film award of the year and more for a basketball game on the outdoor court. A look for which Sandler has long been legendary in Hollywood.

Asked by O'Brien about his clothes, the 58-year-old appeared to react grumpily: "Nobody thought about what I was wearing until you brought it up," he replied.

"I like the way I look. Because I'm a good person. I don't care what I wear or don't wear. My fancy gym shorts and my fluffy sweatshirt offend you so much that you have to mock me in front of my peers," the actor trumpeted to the Oscar host to laughter from the audience.

Sandler and O'Brien parody Trump and Selenskyj

Indignant, Sandler wanted to leave the room. But before he did, he gave Timothee Chalamet (29) a hug and extended an invitation to the other guests: At midnight, he wanted to play a "5 vs. 5 in Veteran Park" in Los Angeles. The guy from "Nosterafu" (actually "Nosferatu", but Sandler got it wrong), by which he probably meant Bill Skarsgård (34), was on his team.

The entire interlude by Sandler and O'Brien was probably not only a tribute to Sandler's style of dress, but also a parody of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a few days ago in the White House.

Trump is said to have been very annoyed by the fact that Zelenskyi was not wearing a suit. The dispute later escalated to such an extent that the meeting was broken off prematurely.
