USA - A real day for the garbage can. Colleen Lorig (31) could hardly believe her eyes recently when she wanted to get the freshly washed laundry out of her washing machine.

In a video on her TikTok account , she shared the curious moment that brought tears to her eyes.

While she was filming the contents of the machine, viewers discovered not only the laundry inside - but also soggy paper that was now stuck to every single towel that Lorig had actually just wanted to clean.

But what had happened here?

Lorig enlightened her followers: Somehow a packet of toilet paper had ended up in her washing machine.

So now the young woman was not only left with a load of freshly washed laundry that she couldn't use. She had also run out of toilet paper.

She ended the clip with the words "I'm about to cry".

The curious clip went viral on TikTok

In an interview with People magazine after her viral hit, she explained once again exactly what had happened.

"I had a really bad day, so many annoying things happened," the 31-year-old said. "I opened [the washing machine] and started crying."

The single mother had only just paid the rent and the shopping beforehand had been really expensive. So she was short of money.

But how did the rolls end up in the washing machine in the first place?

Lorig went on to explain to the magazine that she owns a top loader and had been wearing headphones when loading. As the packet of toilet paper was on a shelf above the washing machine, it must have fallen in without the young woman noticing.

It then took a lot of nerves and several washes before the machine was finally clean again.

One small drop of bitterness: after her video went viral on TikTok, the delivery service Instacart became aware of the 31-year-old - and had two huge packs of toilet paper brought to her.
