A new trend is currently circulating on the social media platform TikTok , where everyone wants to try the "best strawberry in the world". This is grown and marketed by the Japanese brand"Elly Amai Kyoto" and, according to the numerous testimonials, is said to have a unique taste that is completely different to that of conventional, "cheap" strawberries from the supermarket.

However, it is not only the taste that distinguishes the "premium strawberry" from its conventional relatives, but also the price. Those interested can choose between two options. You can either buy the fruit in a value pack of 15 for 90 dollars (the equivalent of around 84 euros) or individually at a low unit price of 19 dollars (the equivalent of around 18 euros)!

The company justifies the expensive price tag by claiming that each fruit comes exclusively from the most renowned farms in Japan, is harvested by hand and has been carefully checked for quality. Whether these arguments justify the price is for everyone to decide for themselves.

Nevertheless, this media attention meant that the strawberries were sold out in supermarkets and online stores in no time at all.

How top model Heidi Klum rates the expensive fruit

Some of the celebrities and stars also dared to try the gourmet self-experiment, including GNTM presenter and top model Heidi Klum (51). She posted a video on Instagram in which she tried the 19-euro strawberry. However, her reaction was somewhat different to that of many other influencers.

The 51-year-old simply rated her expensive snack with the words: "Just tastes like a strawberry. It's a good strawberry, but it only tastes like a strawberry in season. Bye-bye, 19 dollars!"
