Man can't believe what he discovers behind wall in apartment after ten years

Los Angeles (California) - He had already had his suspicions years ago. But in the end, Adam Newacheck didn't find the time to take a closer look at that one suspicious wall in his new apartment in Los Angeles. It wasn't until around ten years later that he got up to take a closer look - and was only slightly disappointed.

The American originally bought the apartment in 2015 to rent out to a family member. In 2021, however, he moved in himself.

"I noticed that this wall seemed to be about 30 centimeters thicker than a normal 10-12 centimeter thick wall. So I knew about it when I moved in and noticed it," Newacheck said in an interview with Newsweek this week.

Still, years passed before he finally tackled the unusual wall on a free weekend. He finally tore it down to see what was behind it.

"The spot was in the middle of the house because these houses were the old Lockheed houses that were built quickly and had central heating in the middle," he explained.

In the end, Newacheck discovered about two square meters of extra space behind the wall. But there was a catch to this curious affair.

"I (...) was thrilled, but disappointed that there was an asbestos pipe in it, so I couldn't use the whole room. But overall I'm happy with the result," the homeowner told the US magazine.

Last week, Newacheck posted several photos of his discovery on Reddit, where he received tens of thousands of clicks.

In the photos, he also showed what he has since made of the extra space.

It has become a practical corner with shelves, a small chest of drawers and a coat rack on the side.

Better late than never: this find has paid off after all these years!
