Holidaymakers storm dream beach: But more than 20 make a fatal mistake
Kiama (Australia) - Most Germans can only dream of this at the moment: swimming on a dream beach in the vacation paradise of Australia. But 21 bathers had to find out for themselves on Monday that it is not unconditionally beautiful there either.

The various accidents occurred in Kiama on Kiama Beach. On Monday, the rescue team responsible, the Kiama Surf Life Saving Club, posted a message on Instagram.
The professionals had achieved a season record with 21 rescues and commented on the dramatic events with several photos from the beach.
"At the peak of the day there were over 150 people in the water and over 400 on the beach. 86 percent of the rescues took place between 12pm and 2pm when the tide was changing. The surf was not huge, but deceptively strong, and the swimmers were surprised by sudden currents," the post reads.
Although the rescue team was able to save everyone in distress without exception, in some cases they were confronted with an absolute no-go.

Strangely, some of those rescued still hadn't got the message!
"Unfortunately, despite the rescue and training, some patients had to be rescued more than once. Well done to our patrol members who worked tirelessly to ensure everyone's safety," the team said.
Speaking to Yahoo News Australia, Natasha Osmond-Dreyer from Kiama SLSC therefore issued another urgent warning. The water "can look so deceptive. Until you get in, you don't think it could happen to you," she said.
If you're only up to your waist in water, you have no idea that you could drown, the Australian said. "But all you need is a huge wave to knock you over and then there's a sudden current and you're gone," she added.
Under these circumstances, going to the nearest German leisure pool might seem a little more attractive after all.
