Almost "goose" at the top: Feathered "climber" forced to descend at 3000 meters altitude!

Mount Shasta (California, USA) - With only one layer of down, this animal "climber" was not sufficiently prepared for the night-time temperatures: Rescue workers in the US state of California have rescued a goose from almost 3000 meters above sea level!

As authorities recently announced on Facebook, mountain rescuers discovered the animal in December 2024 on Mount Shasta - a mountain almost 4300 meters high in northern California.

"The goose likely reached the 10,000-foot elevation at Old Ski Bowl largely by flying and webbing its feet," the post reads.

"When our rangers arrived, the climber (flier?) was wearing only one layer of down and was not prepared for the temperature or for camping overnight."

The mountain rescuers grabbed the goose and, for their own safety, forced it to descend to a nearby pond at a lower altitude. With the help of a snowmobile, this was easily accomplished.

The goose apparently survivedits visit unscathed. It is not known which species the animal belongs to. Some geese reach such altitudes without any problems. However, a stopover on a mountain is anything but normal.
