When carers see what the dog is doing in the shelter, they make a clear judgment

Halifax County (Virginia) - They've seen and experienced a lot - but not this! Marissa Emerman, a volunteer at Halifax County Animal Control in Virginia, was quick to pull out her smartphone when she saw this "spectacle" last week.

In the clip, which has since gone viral on TikTok, the woman walks into the kennel area of the animal shelter. There, standing high up on the cage bars, is dog Mya.

Completely flabbergasted, Emerman approaches the furry friend, who greets her happily with a wagging tail. But even Mya no longer seems entirely comfortable with her current "abode".

"She has officially reached her breaking point," reads the subtitle of the curious video. The unusual scene also impresses TikTok users. Within a week, more than 850,000 clicks have been accumulated, plus a good 77,000 likes.

While many naturally wonder how exactly the four-legged friend managed to climb up there, its keepers want to know something else.

So their main question is whether the viral hit will ultimately help Mya find a new home.

"I share all the unique videos of animals from the shelter on TikTok (...) I love the reactions. The more people see it, the more people know about us and the more lives are saved," Emerman said in an interview with Newsweek this week.

One-year-old Mya has been at Halifax County Animal Control since Dec. 10. She is increasingly bored there, as her climbing action shows.

Unfortunately, the success of the video has not yet translated into placement. So Mya still has to stay at the shelter.

In the meantime, she will have to pass her boredom in other ways in future than with daring climbing actions. Because her new kennel is covered.
