Trump on rising car prices: "I couldn't care less"
USA - Donald Trump's (78) car tariffs are causing vehicle prices to rise. However, as the US President explained, he "couldn't care less".
In an interview with the TV channel NBC , Trump was asked about the comments made by US car manufacturers who had warned of price increases as a result of the tariffs.
Trump replied: "I don't care. I hope they raise their prices because if they do, people will buy American-made cars. We have plenty of them."
Trump had recently introduced tariffs of 25 percent on cars and car accessories that are not manufactured in the USA. These tariffs are to apply from April 3.
In view of the global supply chains, Trump's tariffs are likely to affect both German and US car manufacturers.

The President hopes that the tariffs will strengthen the domestic economy. However, experts are warning of higher prices for consumers and possible negative effects on global supply chains and international trade.
They fear an international trade war with devastating consequences for the global economy.
When asked in the NBC interview what he would say to worried car managers, Trump simply replied: "The message is: Congratulations. If you build your car in the United States, you're going to make a lot of money."
