Toronto (Canada) - There was a dramatic incident at Toronto Pearson Airport Terminal 1 on Thursday morning in which a man was critically injured.

As the Canadian news channel CP24 reports, armed police stormed the airport grounds at around 7 a.m. (local time) - a shooting had previously taken place.

At least one man was apparently seriously injured and had to be resuscitated on the spot, according to the Mirror.

Eyewitness Chris Rhind, himself a passenger at the airport, told CP24 that he was collecting his luggage when he heard several loud bangs in the distance. Other travelers also reported hearing gunshots and people fleeing in panic.

Numerous emergency services are currently on site. The area around Terminal 1 has been cordoned off. The police are asking travelers and drivers to avoid the area at all costs.

The messages are also coming thick and fast on X . One user wrote: "I just heard that Pearson Terminal 1 is now closed. Dozens of people have abandoned their Ubers (and are now being sent back). Does anyone know what's going on?"

The background to the crime is currently still unclear - the investigation is in full swing.
