Sports star and husband swept to his death by river! What happened and how he died

Northumberland (England) - Storm Darragh swept across the UK at the end of last year . Gusts of up to 149 kilometers per hour caused immense damage - and cost two people their lives. Among the victims was rugby star Tom Voyce (†43), who tragically lost his life. Weeks later, further details of the Englishman's death have now emerged.

On December 8, his widow Anna, to whom he had been married since 2015, reported the former professional athlete missing after he had not returned home.

"Extensive searches were then carried out with various partners. Tom's family and friends were also involved in the search," according to a statement from Northumbria Police at the time.

A Toyota car, which the 43-year-old was driving on Saturday evening, was found at the bottom of the River Aln near Alnwick, a community of around 10,000 people around 48 kilometers north of the city of Newcastle, following a large-scale search operation. This was at a depth of 2.10 meters.

There was initially no trace of Voyce himself, but a body floating in the water was discovered four days later by a member of the search and rescue service in Old Abberwick Mill after the missing person's report was published.

A subsequent autopsy brought sad clarity and revealed that the body found was that of the wanted man.

As further investigations by investigators and coroners, which are available to national news platforms, have now revealed, Voyce had attempted to cross a body of water that had overflowed due to storms and rain with his car - and had apparently been swept away by the masses of water while trying to free himself from the sinking car - and drowned.

Further investigations into the exact circumstances of his death are still ongoing, reports. BBC. It is hoped that this will provide further information.

From 2001 to 2006, Voyce played a total of nine international matches for the English national rugby team. In 2003, he joined the local club Wasps RFC - and won both European and national titles until 2009. He retired as a professional in May 2013.
