A brother and sister from the US state of Mississippi have now been sentenced for their involvement in a murder-for-hire plot.

As People reports, Joshua D. Bryan, 29, was sentenced to ten years in prison for conspiracy to commit murder for hire and murder for hire.

Regan E. Bryan (30) received a sentence of five years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit murder for hire.

The two siblings were registered as beneficiaries of a family trust worth around 5.6 million euros following the death of their stepfather (which has not yet occurred).

An indictment, which was published back in 2020, stated that Regan had met with a confidential informant in her home.

During the conversation, the 30-year-old claimed that her stepfather had abused her in the past. This was also the reason why she had wanted to have him killed.

The informant then offered to commit the murder for her, whereupon Regan promised to "take care of him for the rest of his life".

One day later, the anonymous murderer is said to have let her brother in on the plan. In the months that followed, the three met again and again to talk about the horrific crime and how they could get away with it undetected.

In January 2021, however, their plan went awry and they were arrested.
