Brown, who is under contract with Glasgow City FC, will end her sporting career at the end of the current season, the Scottish Football Association announced on Wednesday. According to the announcement, the decisive factor was health problems that had repeatedly affected her.

"The risk is that I could easily re-injure myself, and with my physique and history, I can't afford to do that as there is not much more that can be done," Brown was quoted as saying when announcing her premature retirement.

"It has been one of the greatest privileges of my career to represent my country. To do that 61 times is more than I could have imagined," she also explained.

However, Brown was denied more appearances due to long, never-ending injury worries.

She played her last game for the Bravehearts against Slovakia in April 2024. Since then, however, she has been forced to take a break due to a cruciate ligament injury - the fourth of her entire career.

Like many before her, Brown had resisted an early end to her career as a professional player, but her own body forced her to pull the ripcord.

She made her debut for the national team in 2015, played in a Scotland shirt at the 2017 UEFA Women's European Championship and also qualified for the group stage of the 2019 FIFA World Cup.

Fiona Brown won several titles

At the age of just 14, she began her career at top club Celtic. Three years later, she moved to city rivals Glasgow City LFC, with whom she won the cup twice and the championship three times between 2013 and 2016.

After two spells in Sweden, including at Eskilstuna and FC Rosengård, she returned to City in January of last year.
