On December 26, Nazari had set off from Kosciuszko National Park. He wanted to hike the "Hannels Spur Trail" and meet his two friends at a campsite in Geehi at the end. But he never got there.

His two friends then set off in search of him, but were unsuccessful. Towards evening, they finally alerted the police, who immediately began combing the area on foot and by car together with park rangers.

In the end, more than 300 people searched for the 23-year-old, according to 7News. In the last 13 days, they found possible indications that Nazari could still be alive.

In addition to a lighter, walking sticks and a camera, a fireplace and garbage were also found.

Finally, hikers suddenly came across the missing man on Wednesday off the circular hiking trail. Nazari had approached them and explained that he was lost and thirsty.

Alerted rescue workers finally brought the Australian by helicopter to the command post ten kilometers away and handed him directly to paramedics.

It later emerged that the young man had only been eating two muesli bars and water from a lake for the last few days. Nevertheless, he was in a good condition, according to the rescue workers. "He had no supplies with him," explains police inspector Josh Broadfoot.

"This is an incredible result, after 13 long days he has been found," the officer said happily.

"We never gave up hope of finding him and are delighted that we can return him safely to his family."
