Golden retriever is dying: Owner's heart is torn apart when she sees what her cat does next

New England (USA) - It's as if these two friends had sworn to be there for each other in good times and bad. Because as the condition of golden retriever mix "Fox" deteriorates, his animal friend won't let him down.

Fox's owner was worried when her four-legged friend suddenly became very unwell. The golden retriever-chow-shepherd mix had been by her side for almost 16 years and was an important part of her life.

But now Fox was dying. "I've been dreading this since the day he came home to us from the shelter," the dog owner wrote on Instagram.

She didn't actually want to document her dog's last days for the internet, but when she saw what another resident of her house - her cat "Lynx" - was doing, she knew she had to pull out her camera very quickly.

In one video, the golden retriever mix can be seen lying around completely powerless. Lynx the cat then lovingly snuggles up to his head, giving him touching cuddles and animal kisses. It is as if the velvet paw wants to tell her friend that he is not alone at this difficult time.

"When your dog's health takes a turn for the worst and you realize you're not the only one who worries about him," the woman from New England writes in her post.

Lynx is "the sweetest and most annoying cat" you will ever meet, the pet owner is certain.

Then last Friday came the sad news: Fox died at the age of 15. "No words can describe how special he was or how devastating this is for me, so I'll leave it at that." The US-American had not yet "fully processed" his death.

In 2023, the mongrel had presumably suffered a stroke and subsequently showed signs of severe vestibular syndrome. As a result, he was unable to walk for weeks.

Despite his health problems, however, it is safe to assume that Fox had a very fulfilling life with his dedicated owner surrounded by many other animals who loved him.

Take care over the Rainbow Bridge, Fox!
