On July 5, 2024, Scarlett Vickers, just 14 years old, died after being stabbed in the chest.

As People reported, her father, Simon Vickers (50), appeared before a judge on Tuesday. However, the 50-year-old assured the judge that it was an accident.

He was therefore not guilty of murder or manslaughter.

His explanation for the tragic death of the teenagers: He and his daughter had merely been fooling around in the kitchen, during which "her body must have come into contact with a sharp knife", according to Vickers' lawyer.

Earlier, Vickers and Scarlett's mother, Sarah Hall, had told police that the family had been throwing food and kitchen utensils at each other for fun while making dinner.

Public prosecutor's office considers parents' statements nonsense

As Hall was preparing garlic bread, Vickers accidentally grabbed a knife instead of a spatula and pointed it at the girl.

The parents only realized that Scarlett had been injured when she started screaming. They immediately called the emergency services, but the paramedics were unable to do anything for the 14-year-old.

The public prosecutor's office can only shake its head at these statements. After all, Scarlett's injuries were "too deep to have been accidental". They also ruled out the possibility that the wound was caused by a thrown weapon.

Vickers' lawyer argues against this: The father will have to feel responsible for the rest of his life, but had done nothing unlawful or intentional.

The trial continues.
