The astrologer, John Moe The, posted his prediction on TikTok on April 9. Just two weeks after the tragic 7.7-magnitude earthquake in the Southeast Asian country, which claimed thousands of lives and destroyed historic temples.

He was arrested on Tuesday for "making false statement with intent to cause public panic", according to the BBC, which cited information from Myanmar's Ministry of Information.

John Moe The had warned that an earthquake would hit "every city in Myanmar" on April 21. However, experts explain that earthquakes are impossible to predict due to the complexity of factors involved in such disasters.

In his video, which has been viewed more than three million times, John Moe The urged people to "take important things with you and run away from buildings during the quake".

A resident of the city of Yangon reported that many of her neighbors believed in the prediction, BBC reported. Some refused to stay in their homes and camped outside on April 21. But the earthquake failed to materialize.

Eventually, Joe Moe The was arrested in a raid on his home in Sagaing, central Myanmar. His now-deleted TikTok account claimed he could make predictions through astrology and palm reading.
