Electricity and internet thanks to Elon Musk: Billionaire sends Cybertrucks to Los Angeles
Los Angeles - At the moment, the city of stars is like hell on earth. Devastating fires are raging everywhere, razing everything to the ground. Tech billionaire Elon Musk (53) is sending out a fleet of Cybertrucks to supply those affected with electricity and internet.
The 53-year-old announced his plans himself in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
In it, he first apologized to all the people who have recently ordered one of his Tesla SUVs to California, as the delivery time of the new vehicle will be significantly delayed.
In the current situation, he would like to use the cars as "mobile base stations" in Los Angeles. Thanks to their very large battery, the cars will be used there as a power source. Musk has also equipped his cars with his own Starlink internet.
As this is transmitted via satellite and not via cable, it is possible to establish an internet connection almost anywhere in the world. In Los Angeles, many lines are currently damaged by the fires, which also disrupts the local internet.
The Cybertrucks therefore act as a kind of combination WLAN router and emergency power generator.
This is how Elon Musk announced his project
Cybertrucks provide internet and electricity in Los Angeles
The first trucks arrived in the city of millions last Saturday. Not only the affected residents are happy about the power and the internet, but also the fire department and the volunteers on site.
In a Facebook post showing one of the SUVs, for example, the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team wrote: "Day two of the Cybertruck providing power to our headquarters."
