Janet West from Wales, who has been exploring the world alone since 2022, is unlikely to forget a party night in Thailand in a hurry.

What began as an exuberant evening to celebrate the Thai New Year took a dramatic turn for the adventurous pensioner - thanks to a seemingly harmless drink.

As the Mirror reports, the 61-year-old had happily drunk from a bucket of whisky and coke at the party and celebrated with other guests.

She went to bed exhausted after the wild night. When she woke up the next morning, she initially thought she had been dreaming wildly and that the hotel staff had escorted her back to her room.

However, the shocking truth was not long in coming: Janet had actually been out at night - four hours, naked and disoriented in the hotel!

Apparently Janet's drink had been spiked with methanol

It later transpired that the drink Janet had so carelessly enjoyed had been laced with methanol.

While the pensioner fortunately survived the incident without any lasting health consequences, other tourists reported people going blind or dying from the poisoning caused by adulterated alcohol in Thailand.

The incident is reminiscent of the deaths of six tourists in Laos who also died from methanol poisoning - a scandal that made headlines around the world in late November 2024.

Janet wants to share her terrifying experience to warn other travelers.

Her urgent recommendation to anyone visiting Thailand: Refrain from drinking dubious alcoholic beverages! It's simply not worth risking your life for a cheap drink.
