As cretapost reported, 33-year-old Clara Thomann was six months pregnant. She wanted to spend the holidays in Crete with her boyfriend Elliott Finn.

It was supposed to be a happy time, as the teacher loved hiking and had always appreciated Greece as a travel destination. But the carefree vacation turned into an unimaginable tragedy.

On the morning of December 23, the couple set off on a hike. Clara suddenly slipped on a rock and fell to her death. Her partner Elliott reacted immediately and called for help.

A difficult and hours-long rescue operation followed to get the 33-year-old out of the difficult-to-access area.

Clara Thomann was declared brain dead

Clara was admitted to hospital with serious head and chest injuries, but despite the doctors' best efforts, her life could no longer be saved.

Clara was taken to hospital with serious head and chest injuries, but despite the doctors' best efforts, her life could not be saved.

Her unborn child (the son was to be called Theo) also did not survive his mother's fall.

Her family, who had traveled all the way from the USA, made the difficult decision to donate Clara's organs. The 33-year-old's body has since been transferred to Athens for cremation.

Her partner Elliott is now planning to scatter some of her ashes during a pilgrimage through Greece and Turkey - places he originally wanted to travel to with Clara.

Most of the ashes will be flown back to the USAwith Clara's family . This is where the 33-year-old will be laid to rest.
