Dog is abandoned in front of supermarket: What's written on his collar touches

USA - Heartless or desperate? Instead of handing over his beloved four-legged friend to an animal shelter, Rukey the dog was simply tied up outside a supermarket. But in the end there was a happy ending.

The sweet dog was found in mid-February in a parking lot in front of a Meijer store in Kent County (US state of Michigan). Passers-by took the four-legged friend straight to the animal shelter.

The dog even had a collar with a note on it that read: "My name is Rukey. Please help me, take me home."

But Rukey did not go back to her original home. The dog first ended up at the Kent County Animal Shelter, where she was lovingly cared for.

"To the person who had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go - Rukey is safe and loved dearly by our staff," the shelter wrote on Facebook.

"Her gentle personality has already captured our hearts and we will make sure she is cared for and finds a wonderful, loving family."

And the four-legged friend's happy ending was sooner than expected. After a vet declared the dog healthy, he was put up for adoption.

Shortly afterwards, a family arrived who fell in love with Rukey straight away. "She is on her way to her new home and is bringing joy to her new family," said the shelter.

The Kent County Animal Shelter asked for understanding not to be too hard on the original owner. "We never know what battles someone is quietly fighting."

Nevertheless, the shelter appealed for people to contact them directly with their pets, as they can be better helped there.

The fate of the dog touched hundreds of Facebook users, who were eagerly awaiting the happy ending.
