Dismay in the film world: star director David Lynch is dead!

Los Angeles - He made legendary films such as "Twin Peaks" and "Mulholland Drive", and now star director David Lynch has passed away! This was confirmed by the Oscar-winning director's family on Facebook on Thursday evening. The successful filmmaker was 78 years old.

"It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist David Lynch," it said in an emotional post on the US American's page.

"There is a great void in the world as he is no longer with us. But, as he used to say, 'Keep your eye on the doughnut and not the hole'," said the famous director's bereaved family. Some privacy would be appreciated at this time.

The long-time smoker had already been diagnosed with emphysema in 2020. The disease got worse and worse. But it was only last year that he made his diagnosis public. Most recently, Lynch was no longer able to leave his house without an oxygen mask.

The long-time smoker had already been diagnosed with emphysema - an irreversible over-inflation of the alveoli - in 2020. His health got worse and worse over time. But it was only last year that he made his illness public. Most recently, Lynch was no longer able to leave his house without an oxygen mask.

"I have to say that I really enjoyed smoking and I love tobacco - the smell, lighting cigarettes, smoking - but that enjoyment has a price, and for me that price is emphysema," the filmmaker explained last year.

Even though he stopped smoking in 2022, he was no longer able to stop the incurable disease.

David Lynch, one of the greatest directors of the past 50 years, has passed away.
