The 19-year-old Dutchman confirmed the boy's death on social media - and said goodbye with emotional words: "Sid, you fought as hard as you could against everything that happened, but you couldn't win this hard and difficult battle," reads a touching statement from the Moto2 star on Instagram.
"You will be in my memory forever. You motivate me to fight as hard as you did. I love you, Sid," said the Red Bull rider.
On December 22 last year, the seven-year-old crashed while training on his mini-bike at a karting track in his home province of Limburg and suffered serious injuries as a result.
His motorsport-loving family subsequently described his state of health as "very serious". Sid, national champion in the Minibike Junior A class, subsequently underwent four operations. But all the doctors' efforts to save the seven-year-old's life failed.
Veijer family mourns deceased motorsport talent
"Last Monday there was a small ray of hope in Sid's situation. By the end of the week, this ray of hope turned into the darkest scenario and an unfair fight ensued that Sid could not win. Sid fought like a lion," the family announced the death of the motorsport talent.
His father also found moving words: "Sid fought like a lion. We - Reinold and Rianne, Boyd, Muck and Loek - fought with him until the last minute, with everything we had in us, doctors and nurses did what they could," said an Insta post, which also shows a black and white picture of his deceased son.
