Shrewsbury (England) - Just under a month before Christmas Eve, vandals in the west of England have got themselves into some serious trouble. They are in danger of being haunted by the ghosts of Christmas!

Unknown persons destroyed the gravestone of Charles Dickens' film character "Ebenezer Scrooge"!

According to West Mercia Police, the resting place in the grounds of St. Chad's Church in Shrewsbury has been desecrated in recent days. When exactly? It's unclear!

The site has been a real tourist attraction since the 1980s. Back then, the grave was used as a prop. And for none other than the Christmas grouch Scrooge from the movie "A Christmas Carol".

In this and dozens of other film adaptations of the story, the cold-hearted curmudgeon is visited on Christmas Eve by the ghosts of the past, present and future and turned into a "better", friendlier person.

Helen Ball works for the town of Shrewsbury and wishes that the spirits of Christmas would visit the grave vandals - and make them better people.

Destroyed gravestone of "Ebenezer Scrooge" to be repaired as soon as possible

If town clerk Helen Ball has her way, those same ghosts could pay a visit to the grave vandals of Shrewsbury. That would be "the perfect punishment", according to a report by ABC News.

Especially bitter: Organized tours of the grounds of St. Chad's Church take place at this time of year. Unfortunately, the only "highlight" currently awaiting visitors are the broken pieces of Scrooge's gravestone.

However, the city has already recognized the problem and is in the process of finding solutions to repair or replace the stone slab as quickly as possible, says Helen Ball.
