Huge changes at Mallorca Airport: what travelers now have to do without
Mallorca - Many Germans are familiar with Palma de Mallorca Airport - after all, the island is one of the most popular travel destinations. But in future, holidaymakers will have to be prepared for changes at PMI.
This is because the security area is being completely redesigned. This means that travelers no longer have to go through the huge duty-free area before their departure.
The new modern security gates are now on the same level as the check-in area. Holidaymakers departing can therefore get to the gates more quickly.
But: arriving travelers now sometimes have a longer walk, as the"Mallorca Zeitung" reports. The reason for this is that passengers arriving at Terminal C - where most German flights are handled - must first pass through Terminal D.
However, the new security check before departure should now save time. There will be a total of 44 scanning belts and 22 body scanners. Part of the new wing was already put into operation on November 6.
A new feature is that suitcases no longer have to be opened for electronic devices and liquids - the state-of-the-art scanner will also detect these items.
According to the "Mallorca-Zeitung", the large Duty Free will not reopen until Easter at the earliest. The detour for travelers via Terminal D will then also be discontinued.
According to airport operator Aena, 85 percent of passengers were already completing their checks in less than five minutes. The new checks are intended to optimize travel even further.
