Man dials 911 about burglars, then gets shot by police!
Las Vegas (USA) - Full of fear, Brandon Durham (†43) called the police on Thursday, stating that two strangers were about to break into his house. The officers immediately set off - and fired fatal shots at the 43-year-old's home.
As People reports, Durham was at home with his 15-year-old daughter Isabella when he claims to have noticed two people shooting at his house and then trying to break in.
He immediately called 911 and barricaded himself in the bathroom with the girl.
Three police officers then set off, including 26-year-old Alexander Bookman. He was also the first to enter the house and hear screams inside.
After kicking in the door, he walked through the hallway and eventually discovered Durham and the suspected burglar Alejandra Boudreaux (31), who appeared to be fighting over a knife.
Bookman asked the two to drop the knife. After only about a second, however, he pointed his gun at them and fired a shot. He hit Durham in the process.
After Durham had let go of the attacker and fallen to the ground, the police officer shot the man five more times, injuring him so severely that the 43-year-old died shortly afterwards.
Boudreaux was not hit once during the police operation and was eventually arrested.
Police have started the investigation
The police have now started an investigation, but it is still unclear why Durham was shot so often.
It is also not yet clear why the father of the family spoke of two perpetrators and shots on the phone. At the scene, the officers only found the 31-year-old woman with two knives.
"The loss of life in any kind of incident is always tragic," lead investigator Dori Koren has since said during a press conference. "We take this very seriously."
Durham's 15-year-old daughter, who was present during the incident, has since spoken to television station KSNV and strongly condemned the operation. She is "disgusted" by the police work.
"The violence that took place here was carried out by someone who was extreme, extremely angry and extremely violent," Isabella said. "I'm disgusted that the Metropolitan Police are going to make me live the rest of my life fatherless."
