Aerial spectacle at high school: Football match begins with a blatant "high-flyer"

Cedar City (Utah/USA) - When a state championship football game in Utah attracts worldwide media attention, something very special must have happened. The match was indeed out of the ordinary, but this had more to do with the curious circumstances. "Deseret News" reported.

The young footballers are still standing idly on the sidelines, but shortly afterwards the "kick-off" should come from above.

The sporting event on the campus of Southern Utah University in Cedar City on Saturday morning was truly a rarity.

The high school match kicked off from a pretty lofty height.

Fortunately, a clip that quickly made the rounds on"X" captured the bizarre scene for sports-loving posterity.

First, a helicopter was seen approaching the sports complex cautiously from a distance. Then it slowed down and suddenly stopped over the middle of the pitch. This was followed by the dropping of a football.

Network is thrilled: heated battle for football can also be unorthodox

And the helicopter is already in the air, complete with falling play equipment.

The purpose of this unique event was to launch the football from the helicopter into a thrilling duel on the pitch, in which the respective team captains competed for the coveted "booty" from the air.

The team that captured the game piece was allowed to decide on the kick-off formalities, which are not insignificant in football.

Normally, the start of a classic football kick-off is far less spectacular, namely by means of a coin toss by a referee.

As the creator of the footage, a gentleman named Porter Ellett, confirmed afterwards, a traditional coin toss was also used in this game, but that didn't change the cool aerial display. According to the man himself, he was there to support his nephew on the pitch.

Meanwhile, the rare football throw became a hit onsocial media. The short clip has since been viewed more than five million times and shared countless times. Almost incidentally, the Rich Rebels defeated the Monticello Buckaroos 50:14 and secured the championship title.
