Man's right leg is to be amputated: When he wakes up, he can't believe his eyes!

Winnipeg (Canada) - Bad luck for Jason Kennedy (48)! Due to a bone infection, the former fisherman was supposed to have his right leg amputated. Bad enough in itself, but instead he left the hospital without his left leg.

The member of the indigenous "First Nation" in the Canadian province of Manitoba was on the operating table at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg on October 31 as a result of his life-threatening diagnosis, as reported by"CityNews".

When he woke up from anesthesia, however, he couldn't believe his eyes. The doctors had simply removed the wrong limb from below his knee.

"I don't want to swear, but damn, they took the wrong leg," the 48-year-old described his feelings to the TV station.

"You suddenly feel a lump in your throat and you want to scream," Kennedy continued. "I was devastated and hurt, and I kept grabbing my face and telling myself that this must be a dream and can't be true."

How the hair-raising mistake could have happened has not yet been clarified. However, an investigation into patient safety has now been initiated at Grace Hospital.

According to the state broadcaster"CBC", a spokesperson for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority explained that only limited information could be made public at present due to medical confidentiality. It was a "complex clinical situation".

"We are aware of the incident and the distress the matter has caused the patient, his family and caregivers," the spokesperson added.

The surgeon responsible and two colleagues have since apologized personally, Kennedy confirmed.

Although he does not want to let the matter rest in order to prevent future patients from similar mishaps, he has accepted his fate and offers his forgiveness.

"I can easily forgive a person because that's what I learned from my family," explained the 48-year-old.
