Madrid - At least ten people have died in a fire at a retirement home near the city of Zaragoza in north-eastern Spain, according to media reports .

Two other people were in a critical condition after the fire in the home in Villafranca de Ebro in the autonomous region of Aragon, a reporter from the state broadcaster RTVE reported from the scene of the accident on Friday morning.

The fire broke out at around 5 a.m. for as yet unknown reasons.

At the time of the fire, there were 82 residents in the home, the reporter continued.

It is unclear how many personnel were present. The fire department, police, doctors and psychologists were deployed.
