USA - A loyal dog, a mysterious fire and a dramatic arrest: when the police found the burnt body of a young woman, the case seemed almost hopeless - until a small dog provided the decisive clue.
Mandy Rose Reynolds (†26) was discovered by the authorities in April 2023 - dead and "burned beyond recognition".
As People magazine now reports, the investigators also found a small white dog next to the burning body, which barked desperately at the officers and refused to leave the area around the body. At the same time, however, he would not let the police catch him.
Even after the body was removed, the dog remained at the scene. Animal control was notified, and officers were eventually tipped off that the four-legged friend was named Titan and belonged to Reynolds - as revealed by a chip scan.
Shortly afterwards, the police went to her house and discovered that all her belongings were missing and the house was completely empty, according to the public prosecutor's office.
The deceased's car had also disappeared, prompting the officers to initiate a search in a license plate database.
Derek Daigneault was convicted of murder
The vehicle was eventually located in another US state.
A few days later, local police noticed the wanted car and encountered 29-year-old Derek Daigneault, Reynolds' cousin.
He tried to flee and hid behind a shelf in a supermarket before he was finally arrested.
In the vehicle, the officers found a gun that matched the shell casings near the body.
The evidence was clear!
The 29-year-old was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder last Thursday.
