The parents of 14-year-old Max Calhoun were out of town for a while, so the boy stayed temporarily with a family friend.

When Justin Oliver, said friend, brought Max home about a week ago, as his parents were due to return later that day, he made a frightening discovery.

Max had barely unlocked the front door when he saw a burglar! He quickly ran back to Oliver's car, who had been waiting outside.

"He said: 'Someone's in the house, someone's breaking in. I told him to wait outside, went back, grabbed my gun and entered the house," Oliver told Fox59.

Surveillance camera video shows Oliver walking into the house and encountering a man who had made himself at home while the family was away. "He said, 'Don't shoot me, I'm not dangerous.' I replied, 'You're breaking into my friend's house, so don't tell me you're harmless,'" Oliver further added. He then held the man until the police arrived and arrested Kenneth Quilaton (33).

Max's mother, Ashley Calhoun, reported in a Facebook post that the burglar had showered in the house, taken a nap, prepared pizza rolls and even fed the dog.

She went on to write that the 33-year-old had tried to get into the garage through the attic. The ceiling had collapsed, leaving a large hole and a lot of debris.

"It's just a very unpleasant feeling to know that someone has gone through your house. But it goes further than that - my kids are scared of everything now," Ashley added.

While talking to her husband, the couple recalled meeting the burglar by chance just before they left.

"My husband told me this whole story and said, 'I can't believe this. I just bumped into this guy. We were talking about an item I have that he was very interested in. I told him I didn't have time to look for it as it was in the attic. I'm going away for two weeks on Wednesday,'" the mother continued.

She emphasized that this was an important lesson for everyone: just don't tell anyone you're leaving town.

Court documents show that Quilaton is said to have offered a police officer 100 dollars (around 92 euros) to let him go. He was therefore arrested for bribery as well as burglary.
