Parrot "Jacky" dies after nose operation: star lawyer now fights with family for justice

Vienna (Austria) - Doris L. (55) and her husband (60) rescued a cute baby parrot from the Libyan capital Tripoli , which they named "Jacky". The couple lived happily together with their three sons, a cat, a dog and Jacky, until one day the little bird did not wake up after a supposedly routine procedure.

As the Austrian newspaper"Heute.at" reports, Jacky has always struggled with a chronic illness. But Doris, her husband and the VetMed University of Vienna have managed to gradually nurse the little bird back to health.

Last year, the couple noticed that Jacky's beak was getting longer and longer over time. He was then taken to a vet to have his beak "trimmed" a little, but during the examination the doctor noticed not only Jacky's beak but also something in his nose, which is why he decided to operate on the young parrot.

In an interview with the newspaper, Doris reveals that Jacky was given antibiotics and an infusion after the operation, but died one night later. "According to the autopsy by the VetMed University, sepsis was the cause of Jacky's death," it says.

Doris goes on to say that both she and her husband were already receiving psychological support because they were unable to cope with Jacky's sudden death. "The parrot could have lived to be 70 years old and our sons would have inherited him," says Doris.

The couple filed a lawsuit against the vet, but it was rejected.

Star lawyer Astrid Wagner is now standing up for the family

As a public prosecutor, Astrid Wagner (61) has already had many difficult cases on her desk. She herself is an animal lover, which is why the Jacky case is particularly important to her.

For Doris and her husband, however, the matter is not yet over and together with star lawyer Astrid Wagner (61), they are now trying to get justice. Wagner explains to the newspaper: "A bereavement allowance should be awarded for the loss of animals. The family is severely traumatized, they would be entitled to 10,000 euros."

The veterinary practice also spoke out - now it's testimony against testimony. They claim that the family themselves have not always acted in Jacky's best interests. They did not always go to the vet for preventative appointments and recommended check-ups, and Jacky's deteriorating state of health was ignored.

Other reviews on Google also report poor treatment by the vet. One animal lover wrote in his review: "Suspected poisoning in a cat at the weekend, no blood count, no heart ultrasound ... after 5 minutes the anamnesis was over and you should just watch the cat or pay 1000 euros + for observation on site because no concrete examinations are carried out at the weekend."

However, the presumption of innocence applies until proven otherwise.
