Orangutan is presented with a mirror: What the ape then does causes tears of laughter
Louisville (USA) - What actually happens when you confront apes with their mirror image? A visitor to a zoo in the USA apparently asked himself this question and unceremoniously placed a mirror in front of an orangutan.

Female ape "Amber" lives at the Louisville Zoo in the US state of Kentucky . One visitor, who is obviously a regular at the zoo, has developed a special bond with the orangutan. He regularly visits the female ape and usually brings her a little surprise.
Amber has already been confronted with a magic trick, small board games and play slime, among other things. The objects were presented and demonstrated to her in front of the glass of the enclosure. The videos created during the encounters are an absolute hit on TikTok and have already been clicked on several million times.
Most recently, the zoo guest brought a mirror for the female monkey. In the one-minute video, Amber can be seen reacting immediately to the cosmetic mirror.
The animal excitedly opens its mouth, bares its powerful teeth and puckers its lips.
Orangutan recognizes itself in the mirror

It quickly becomes obvious that Amber immediately realized who was in the mirror - herself!
With this knowledge, the monkey's grimaces are even funnier, as it seems as if she wants to check her appearance in detail. It's almost as if she's thinking, "Oh, I look fabulous!"
In the comments of the clip, which has been viewed more than 43 million times, one user explains that animals like orangutans tend to make funny facial expressions in the mirror because they like to examine the parts of their body they don't often see.
Other users simply find Amber's reaction cute.
