Woman books DNA test because new dog looks so similar to old one: Result leaves her speechless

Clarksville (Tennessee/USA) - All she wanted was a cat! Last September, Melissa Lohman from Clarksville, Tennessee ( USA ), tried her luck at an animal shelter. But instead of a velvet paw, she went home with a dog named Remi. Months later, Lohman fell in love with another four-legged friend from a different shelter: Meeko. What struck her immediately was the similarity between the two dogs. However, a DNA test left her speechless.

"The first time I saw a Facebook post about Meeko was on a volunteer-run page about animals in shelters," explained the US American in a recent interview with Newsweek. But Meeko was soon rehomed.

In January, the situation changed fundamentally once again: "There was another Facebook post about Meeko saying that she had been relinquished," explained Lohman.

This came as a shock to her, as Remi had had her for about as long as the other person had had Meeko: "I couldn't imagine giving her away."

In the end, the dog lover took her chance to meet the second four-legged friend at the shelter. "When I saw the two of them, I think I realized how similar they were," says Lohman.

It wasn't long before she took Meeko in too. But after a few days, her owner was keen to find out whether the two animals were related in any way.

The tests were easy to carry out and were evaluated within a few weeks. Then came the surprise.

"They are sisters. [...] Not just sisters, but littermates," Lohman told the US magazine.

Today, she is all the more delighted that the two dogs have come together, which she would hardly have thought possible beforehand.

"Remi definitely seems like an older sister," says the fur friend happily about her two four-legged friends. They get along wonderfully and provide plenty of entertainment in their home.
