Poor dog is pulled down by his own fur: one shave later, the stray dog is completely different

Chicago (USA) - When your own fur becomes a burden: A completely neglected dog was wandering the streets of the US metropolis of Chicago. But the stray was lucky and was recently taken in by animal rights activists. Their care and a thorough beauty program bore fruit after just a few days!

The animal rights activists from "One Tail at a Time" (OTAT) have probably saved the life of the stray named "Sprout" through their intervention, as the dog would probably not have been able to carry its excessively long and heavy coat around for much longer.

The Do Khyi - the breed is also known as the Tibetan Mastiff - was carrying around more than 13.6 kilograms of matted fur, urine and excrement, as OTAT wrote on Instagram a few days ago. The organization also posted a video of the degenerate, large and, above all, heavy animal .

Vets took action shortly afterwards. During grooming under sedation, the ballast that was pulling at her skin and causing pain, irritation and a serious skin infection was removed, the animal rights activists explained.

It was an immediate 180-degree turnaround for Sprout in terms of her well-being and viability. For the first time in quite some time, she was able to "urinate, defecate, walk and lie down without being in pain".

Cases like these are why OTAT always wants to keep going, the organization wrote on the day it celebrated its 17th anniversary.

And Sprout?

Sprout is finally a "normal" dog again

With the old coat, the Do Khyi weighed almost 60 kilos!

She looked like a new dog! Days after the shave, there is little to remind us of the wild, dirty ball of fur.

"In just a few days, Sprout went from a stray in desperate need of medical care to a dog dressed in a onesie on the sofa being fed warm crumbs from your hand," the animal rights activists gave an update over the weekend.

In another post, they celebrated Do Khyi as "damn special". In an accompanying video, the huge dog can be seen happily playing in the wintry garden.

"It was a real joy to watch this 95 pound [around 43 kilo] bear come out of her shell. [...] Dogs are so magical, aren't they?" We can only agree with that ...
