Police officers rescue terrified Labrador dog: what they learn breaks everyone's heart

Youngstown (USA) - This dog's fate leaves no one indifferent: in the US state of Ohio, a dog wandered the streets for days until she was finally rescued. But her suffering is far from over.

It took a policewoman to kindly care for the emaciated Labrador with the black fur before she gained a little trust.

Her story has now been published on Facebook by the Mahoning County Dog Warden, an Ohio government organization - and is sure to move many a dog lover to tears.

Maeve, as she has now been named, had been roaming the streets of Youngstown in north-east Ohio for at least a week. The animal rights activists assume that she was abandoned.

On Wednesday evening, police officer Keith Stokes was finally called to the injured dog. A colleague, Megan Feidler, was already looking after the limping animal. He recognized Maeve and had already tried in vain to catch her in the days before.

She was obviously afraid of him, because when Megan approached her, talked to her reassuringly and stroked her, the exhausted four-legged friend lay down next to her and had a collar put on.

Labrador Maeve fights for her life

And so, with the help of the non-profit animal welfare organization "Friends Of Fido MCDP", her rescuers finally managed to take the pretty dog to a vet. But she was not only emaciated and dehydrated.

X-rays revealed that her pelvis was broken several times - she had most likely been hit by a car.

She also had a bruised lung, which had caused her lung to collapse, resulting in shortness of breath, and a nosebleed. As if that wasn't enough, she suffers from a white blood cell deficiency.

Maeve is still not out of the woods. "If she doesn't get better soon, we could lose her," reads a post from Saturday evening. There is even talk of an impending sepsis.

The animal rights activists can now only hope and pray that the dog survives. They are collecting donations so that she can receive the best treatment at the emergency clinic where she was taken.
