Last Monday afternoon, the Garfield police in the US state of New Jersey were contacted by a worried owner because her beloved dog Molly had run away.

In the afternoon of the same day, a pink poodle was reported running around alone in the town. The officers knew it could only be Molly.

Shortly after receiving the report, several police officers made their way to the scene of the sighting. They eventually managed to locate the poodle - but the case was far from over.

Molly didn't want to be caught just like that and kept giving the police officers the slip.

The chase on the banks of the Passiac River took a dramatic turn when Molly suddenly jumped into the ice-cold water and swam away.

Molly was stuck on an island in the river

Molly eventually made it back to land on a small island in the middle of the river. It was no longer so easy for the police to reach her.

In order to continue the rescue, the fire department was called in, who then arrived with boats and special equipment.

Towards evening, a firefighter finally managed to catch the poodle. Molly was completely hypothermic, but was otherwise unharmed and could be handed over to her owner.
