In early April, Hunter Metzger, the owner of a Great Dane, ordered a very special meal from a Texas roadhouse restaurant: It was to be the last meal for his beloved Great Dane, as People reports.

There was a moving note on the order form: "Last meal for our dog. Please prepare with love." The restaurant employee who discovered the note later shared the moment in an emotional Facebook post .

Metzger told NBC station WGAL that he wanted to give Iris, who turned eight and a half, "the last best day of her life". The dog suffered from an aggressive nasal growth that was no longer responding to medication. "We still took her on outings and visited the family," Metzger explained, "and at some point I had the idea of giving her a steak to say goodbye."

The lovingly prepared menu consisted of a New York strip steak with chips, mashed potatoes and freshly baked bread.

Employee shares touching story on Facebook

The restaurant surprised the owner with this gesture

When restaurant employee Kate Weston spotted the special note on the order, she knew immediately that she wanted to make Iris the best steak ever. She told WGAL: "At that moment, nothing else mattered but giving Iris her last meal."

She carefully packed the steak with the side dishes in a to-go container and wrote a touching note on the lid: "Made with love."

But this loving gesture didn't stop there: the restaurant covered the cost of the entire order and gave the furry friend her last meal. Metzger later shared his gratitude in a Facebook group: "Not only did the restaurant not make me pay for the food, but the wonderful staff also took the time to write a note on the container. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!"

Metzger later shared touching photos of Iris feasting on the meal. A few days after the feast, he and his family said their goodbyes: Iris was laid to rest in peace.
