Peach, a sweet Chihuahua mix, didn't have an easy start in life, as Newsweek reports.

When she was adopted by a young couple, they had no idea what challenges awaited her.

The dog lady, just 22 months old, simply couldn't settle down in her new home. Constantly on guard, she had difficulty relaxing and even struggled to stay awake.

But what her new owners didn't know was that Peach was struggling with her tragic past.

She came from a household where she was kept with 26 other dogs in catastrophic conditions - a place where improper breeding practices and neglect were commonplace.

The traumatic experiences from her past left deep behavioral problems in the little dog.

She had never learned to calm down as an only dog and so it was difficult for her to gain confidence. In her new home, Peach was constantly on the alert.

The first few weeks were therefore a tough battle. But the young couple did not give up. Working closely with vets, she was prescribed a medication that helped the dog to sleep again.

With a lot of patience, a loving routine and, above all, the unwavering devotion of her new family, the four-legged friend slowly began to settle into her new surroundings. It was a long road, but after more than three months, the little fighter was finally able to relax in her new home.

Today, Peach sleeps soundly and is a happy dog who loves to take a nap in peace and quiet.
