Golden Retriever is allowed to stay at home alone for the first time: What he does then, his owners don't find funny at all

Boston (Massachusetts) - A leap of faith failed: A few days ago, golden retriever girl Hazel was allowed to stay home alone for the first time - without having to stay in her dog cage. But instead of showing that she can behave herself in her apartment in Boston, Massachusetts, the dog proved the exact opposite. What her owners found so mediocrely funny amused an audience of millions on Instagram .

In the viral hit, Hazel can be seen looking around the apartment to see if she really is alone. Secretly filmed by an animal camera, the seven-month-old fur nose apparently thinks she is safe. Then it starts.

The cheeky dog grabs the TV cabinet and chews on a corner with delight. Suddenly Hazel is startled: Her owners use their loudspeaker on the pet camera to tell her to stop immediately. That did it!

The other "results" are also impressive: The curious Instagram clip has received 1.1 million clicks as well as more than 20,000 likes in just four days since it was posted.

In an interview with Newsweek, Hazel's owner told us what happened next.

"We weren't sure what to expect. But we thought she might behave if she knew she was alone, as she usually chews to attract attention," said the US-American.

After being proved wrong, their intervention via camera microphone worked wonders.

"In the rest of the video, after we told her 'no' through the microphone, she climbs onto the couch to take a nap. So it worked in the end," says the mistress.

Unfortunately, the subsequent attempts were similar. The golden retriever kept chewing on the furniture.

But Hazel's owners don't want to give up: "We'll keep trying, always in small steps, but never going too far to slowly get her used to it."
