Maricopa County (USA) - There's no question about it: this dog caught the eye as soon as she was rescued. The pink-colored Luna was found last month in a park in the state of Arizona. At the sight of her, it quickly became clear that she must belong to someone. Accordingly, her rescuers from Maricopa County Animal Care & Control found a microchip on her. But the rescuers' hearts were soon to break.

The furry friend had not been painted in any way, but had received a professional coloring. "That's what groomers do with animal-friendly colors," explained Kim Powell from the animal welfare agency in an interview with Newsweek this week.

So the team was sure that someone was already missing Luna - and looking for her. There was at least plenty of data on her microchip.

"We tried everything to reach her owners. We called her, contacted her by text message and letter. Even a groomer who knew Luna got in touch with us and gave us the potential owner's contact details - unfortunately without success," Powell explained to the US magazine.

Her carers let five days pass before they took the ten-year-old dog into care with a heavy heart. But then they made an Instagram video with her that was to change the situation.

Luna's owners could not be reached this time either. But the curious clip went viral. It has now received 2.7 million clicks and more than 150,000 likes.

In the end, it heralded a happy ending for the four-legged friend.

"Luna was adopted on March 27 by someone who had seen her viral video online," Powell confirmed to the news magazine.

Her new owner even wore extra pink shoes, she added. So perhaps Luna's extravagant look will even remain in the future.
