Texas (USA) - Gracie wasn't sure if her dog was ready to meet her baby for the first time. The cute encounter sparked a discussion among viewers.

On her TikTok channel "gracie.boettcher", the 23-year-old mother from Texas showed her baby's very first encounter with her pug Mia.

Numerous viewers took a close look at the sweet interaction and tried to analyze the dog's body language.

In the video, Gracie's daughter reacts very open-heartedly and hugs the little pug. Shortly afterwards, the dog slips a little to the side and the hug ends.

"Mia is a great family dog and very tolerant of hugs and leaning on babies," Gracie told Newsweek.

But some users had a very different take on the short clip and expressed their concerns in the comments. "This dog is clearly showing signs of discomfort," wrote one user, while another added: "The dog looks a little confused, maybe you should have waited to approach him."

Gracie did not want to let the viewers' concerns slide and wrote a response.

"Mia always walks away when she's uncomfortable, so she really enjoys the company when she stays around," Gracie argued.

Fortunately, not all users reacted with concern to the video. One user wrote: "I think most people are just jumping to conclusions. It's just a cute video of a baby hugging a pug. Nothing more, nothing less."

In fact, stress or calming signals in dog body language can be very subtle. So whether the pug really felt disturbed by the hug or not might be difficult to understand.
