The video of a shelter cat trying everything to secure a family has gone viral on social media.

"At the shelter, we didn't choose the cat - the cat chose us," says the clip, which was shared on the TikTok channel "valmir_cat".

"He was the first one to come to us when we came to the shelter. We are so happy he chose us, he is the best cat," added the pet's new owners.

In the video, the intrepid kitten Valmir can be seen hanging on to his visitor's jacket at the shelter, holding it with his claws and refusing to let go - until he is taken home by his new owner.

The young couple who decided to adopt Valmir told Newsweek that they had wanted a pet for a long time, but could never really decide.

Valmir's obvious ambitions, which the video clearly shows, may have made the whole thing a lot easier in the end.

Viewers on TikTok react courageously to clingy cat

The TikTok video quickly went viral on social media, reaching over 133,000 views and more than 16,000 likes. One user commented: "I think this is the right way to adopt cats at the shelter, lmao."

"It's like he's saying: 'I'm yours. No discussion about it'," added another user. A third viewer wrote: "I know trouble when I see it. Good luck with that sweet rascal."
