The elderly pet can be seen in a post shared on Reddit . "The neighbor's cat has Alzheimer's and forgets he doesn't live here," the caption reads.

Since Maolo has been suffering from the disease, he has been a regular guest at his neighbor's house.

"His parents let him out once a day so he can get a breath of fresh air - and often when I see him walking around outside, he ends up right outside my door," the neighbor reported on Reddit.

"The reason for this is probably because he's senile and used to live with me," the user added.

"This and the strong suspicion that he suffers from dementia seems to be the most plausible explanation," the neighbor surmised. His post was well received and sparked a wide-ranging discussion about animal health.

Dementia and Alzheimer's are more common in cats than you might think.

According to an article inZooplus magazine, the most common symptoms include wandering aimlessly, going to the wrong door and having difficulty finding their way out. Affected velvet paws often also appear stressed.

The picture quickly went viral on Reddit and prompted numerous comments from concerned cat fans.

"Awww, poor thing. Maybe they should just take him home then," wrote one user. "Let him in and give him food, cuddles and snacks," added another.

A third user responded with humor: "He knows exactly where he lives, but he'd rather chill with you."
