According to a report inThe Guardian, the tragedy occurred at the Darley Moor Centre racecourse at around 11.30am (local time) yesterday morning (Tuesday).

The local police immediately cordoned off the area around the accident site and also alerted the Aircraft Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB). In an interview, an AAIB spokesperson confirmed that the fatalities were the pilot and co-pilot of the light aircraft . It is not yet known whether it was a glider or a motorized aircraft.

However, it has now been established that the two men most likely died in the accident because they were not flying at the general minimum altitude for aircraft of all kinds in the area.

According to a regulation issued by the Ministry of Transport, no aircraft is allowed to fly lower than 1600 feet (approx. 488 meters) above the ground.

According to the police, the aircraft debris was located in a small wooded area near the route.
